Uniform

School uniform plays a key role in promoting high expectations, pride, self-confidence and a feeling of belonging for pupils and is an essential part of our identity and values. At Millfields, we believe that wearing a school uniform promotes equality and inclusivity, by removing the differences in dress that may exist between pupils from different economic backgrounds. When everyone is wearing the same clothing, it eliminates the pressure on pupils to wear expensive and fashionable clothing to fit in with their peers, thus promoting a sense of community and unity. Furthermore, uniforms prepare our students for future professional environments, teaching them the importance of dressing appropriately and maintaining a positive image.

jewellery

The only types of jewellery that children are permitted to wear to school are watches and one pair of stud earrings. Earrings with hoops of any size are not permitted. Please note that earrings cannot be worn for PE lessons or Forest School sessions so these must be removed for these activities. If your child is unable to remove their own earrings, please ensure that these are not worn on days when these activities take place. If children are wearing earrings and are unable to remove them for these activities, they will, unfortunately, not be able to participate for health and safety reasons as we are not able to tape earrings.

Watches are permitted for all age groups, including smart watches. However, any communication between a smart watch and a phone must be disabled. If smart watches are used to play games, take photos or send messages then they may be confiscated and passed to the school office for collection by a parent.

HAIR

Extreme haircuts and dyed hair are not permitted. Hair longer than chin length must be tied back for health and safety reasons.

Simple hair accessories can be worn to school but decorative headbands and oversized bows should not be worn. Ideally, these should be red, white, black or brown.

Please note that if children come into school wearing inappropriate accessories or jewellery, they will be asked to remove these and store them in their bookbag/bag during the school day.

nail varnish, makeup and body piercings

Nail varnish, false nails, make up and body piercings are not permitted in school.

Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 should only bring a book bag or a Millfields rucksack (available from our uniform provider) to school for books and snacks. These bags are much easier for them to use and take up a lot less space in the cloakrooms. When children move into Key Stage 2, they may bring in a different rucksack.

Millfields PTA hold regular secondhand uniform sales where you can purchase good-quality secondhand uniform for a small donation.

Please ensure that all items are named and are checked regularly as written names often fade.
