The Sea Cadets uses a nautical theme, based on the customs of the Royal Navy, to teach skills from cookery to engineering, first aid, sailing, rowing, navigation and the art of seamanship, both on land and on the water. We pride ourselves on building young people’s confidence and resilience, as well as life skills such as leadership and team building. Many of the activities we run have a STEM focus and cadets can also earn qualifications as they complete their training. Attached is our Outcomes Framework that will give you a bit more of an idea about the kinds of instant and long-term benefits young people can get from joining Sea Cadets, as well as our junior leaflet for your interest. You can also find out more information about Sea Cadets on our website https://www.sea-cadets.org/
Wivenhoe Sailing Club Cadets
Do you want your child to be confident on the water? Does your child want to learn to sail? If so, the Cadets might be the answer. We take young people from ages 10-17 and aim to give confidence on the water and basic sailing skills. Cadets end the season being able to rig and launch a boat, sail a basic course and capsize safely. The season runs from around April to October (weather depending) and each session is dependent upon the tides. This means that sessions are not on the same day, at the same time each week but jump around a bit from week to week and month to month. We do understand that Cadets can’t always attend each session due to other commitments but equally it means that Cadets can fit it in amongst other activities. We usually run a Cadet camp in the summer where the young people combine sailing to Mersea with putting up tents and more sailing! There are some membership charges and charges for the camp but session fees are included in the initial membership charge.
The season begins March / April 2025 – if your child would like to join, or you would like more information, please contact Emily Gordon at wsccadets@gmail.com
